If you're listening

If you’ve been waiting patiently for the resurgence of emo music on the pop charts, get ready. LA production group Captain Cuts have taken some of the biggest hits of the past five years and emo-fied them, mashing them up with our favourite three-word band names from the early 2000s. Grab your black band tees and roll up the cuffs of your jeans – emo is back.

Playing off Drake’s 2015 mixtape title and Jimmy Eat World’s The Sweetness, If You’re Listening It’s Never Too Late is 31 minutes of ‘Oh man, I used to love that song!’

The mixtape begins with The Sweetness and its line ‘If you’re listening’, melding into Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know, Blink 182’s Adam’s Song and Dashboard Confessional’s Hand’s Down, which receives a new backbeat from Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s Lean On.

Music from Adele, Selena Gomez, Paramore, Justin Bieber, Fetty Wap, Drake, and Fall Out Boy all make appearances on the new mixtape, which was uploaded to Soundcloud this week.

Get ready to travel through time with If You’re Listening It’s Never Too Late. We’re partial to Sum 41’s Fat Lip and Uptown Funk. Brilliance.
